Im using Windows Vista Home Basic 32bit. ( cause who wants to pay 100$ for some pretty alt tabbing ;D )
I tried iris some time ago on XP when it was much less stable and pretty and I was hoping to check out its progress but after updating to the latest stable when I try to launch it , the dos window flicks open and almost immediately crashes. Theres no Text in the window that I used to see before it launched.

this is the error report

Have you install the Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 SP1 Redistributable Package (x86) and the last DirectX End-User Runtime (June 2007)

Look here for the install guide: http://www.iris2.de/index.php/InstallationManual

Good luck ;)

I Already had installed both but I did so again and im not sure that the c++ package is installing correctly under vista. The site lists supported OS's as :

System Requirements

* Supported Operating Systems: Windows 2000; Windows Server 2003; Windows XP

It seems that Ogre3D (our 3D Engine) isn't working correct with Vista.

Next week i'm able to check Iris2 with Vista.

I checked the ogre forums and there is supposedly no problems with vista D:

if I just try to run iris2.exe this is the whole error

I checked the forums and there was a post about something similar to this but it was too confusing for me to understand and talked about recompiling

looks like iris does not find the ogre dll, or at least not the correct one.

maybe you have created a symbolic link to the .exe and the working dir is wrong ?

please try to open the iris/bin dir in the explorer and starting iris directly from there.

i think microsoft needs to ensure a bit of (backwards) compatibilty.
i don't plan on getting vista anywhere near me.

Mh... do you use or iris2 installer? not the zip...i mean the installer?

Do you run the updater (with option "stable")?

Please test to start iris2 with admin rights.

This links only explains that the user is using a wrong dll. Maybe an ogre dll. But we distribute always the working dlls.

I had installed with the regular installer and updated but I tried to update again and strangely enough the only file it downloaded was ogremain.dll ... but of course as vista goes theres a different error after that. I made sure to turn all the permissions on for both folders and ran iris as admin.

ah.

the update must download ALL new files. we changed to a newer ogre version 1.4.3.

if it only updates the ogremain.dll it gives you a conflict. one sollution is to update fully ...or do not update.
