I was wondering if it was getting any near to the old dream of having more than 8 directions in game? Is it any possible?

Completely remove the 8 direction limitation is not possible (its a server thing). But we will try to fake away the limitation.
We want to add that you can walk free at the client and your movement gets translated into the 8 directions. This way it will feel much better although all the other characters are still limited to the 8 directions.

i think it can be done so that you can move freely, but other players don't see it, and you don't see other players moving freely.
that's the next big thing i want to work on after the current codeclean merge is finished and maybe a few small things are cleaned up (mount anims, maybe shield-in-wrong-hand-bug, and maybe corpses)

And would that be possible to remove the 8 directions limit by doing in serverside? Would that be feasible or it's just too much work and skill?

You better write a completly new server, than removing the 8 dir limit.

That's the base of all in UO. There is an RunWoW Emu. out there, where the guys take RunUO as base for an WoW Emu. But they rewrote 80-90% of the server.

Ahh,I see.
WoW emulator? Nice stuff. Wasn't Blizzard shutting down any free WoW server or Emulator it would find? Or they kind of chilled?

So this is a definite no? :(

This would be clientside only modification, right? Could we not add this in the server side as well, so other using modified server see the free movement? I understand that the server does things in the "restricted movement" mode but it feels odd that we could not do similar "faking" on the server too.

Not sure if this would be such a good idea or not. Im just thinking out loud. Perhaps the SunUO guy might give some ideas about this, or something.

Since iris is supposed to be a client working with most servers out there, i don't see much sense in investigating server-modifications.
The original 2d client would not support it, and therefore i doubt many shards would take the trouble to install the server modification, even if it was available.
It would not justify the effort.

Thats true. I was just speculating the possibility of changing the server to support free movement.
