Post subject:  Purpose of Offline Mode

What are the intended/desired uses for the offline mode?

Answers thus far:
  1. Demonstrate the capabilities of Iris to those that have not seen it before.
  2. Inspect maps and static objects through the eyes of Iris.
  3. Debug the client when no network is available.
  4. Allow users to run around offline for fun.

(Some answers taken from http://www.iris2.de/forums/viewtopic.php?t=1313)

Please reply with any additions or modifications.

(This is a way to indirectly answer a question I have in addition to formally defining a list of what the offline mode is supposed to be as part of a final product.)

It was implemented just for debugging reasons, to test the client before we added the network interface.

Now it can be used to check a map.

Maybe later it can be used to make an offline RPG or if you rotate the Cam, you can make a Sidescrolling Jump&Run UO game :-).

Does that mean it is not used for debugging anymore?

When you add or change something, do you always log into an online shard?

If the answer to the above two questions is 'no', does that mean it should be as close to the online mode as possible (faking any part where it normally would communicate with a server)?
