Post subject: | UOAMHub win32 port - Iris2 + UO Automap on windows |
For anyone interested in running UOAM (UO Automap) with Iris2 on a Windows system, the file below may be helpful. This is a win32 port of UOAMHub, using the latest Cygwin 1.7 beta (source included). Previously you needed a *nix server to run UOAMHub so that Iris2 could (indirectly) update the UOAM map with your current position. uoamhub-0.9.1-win32.zip There is a text file in the archive with the instructions below for using UOAMHub with Iris2 -Nyvar ======================= I just wanted to say that after all these years of playing UO that it's exciting to see such a promising 3D client emerging. Kudos to the Iris2 developers! A quick note on using this server with the Iris2 client. My current recommendation is to set up UOAM with just a 'space' character for the 'Name:' under Link > Link controls (so that this bogus name won't display on the UOAM map). The reason is that UOAM is not connected directly to Iris2. Since you won't be running Razor or UOAssist with Iris2, UOAM has no way of receiving position updates directly from the client. Instead, UOAM will be sending a bogus position to the UOAMHub server (or possibly none at all, I didn't dig too deeply into the protocol). You can set your Iris2 client with the actual name you want displayed, and then once both Iris2 and UOAM are linked to the server you can set UOAM to 'track' your Iris2 user instead. It appears that multiple people are able to connect to the server using just a 'space' as the username for UOAM, apparently they just compete over sending the same bogus position for that user. Groups or guilds running Iris2 may find this workaround useful as well. -Nyvar |

Nice work. Kudos to you. I also thought about compiling UOAMHub for Windows. But no time. So thanks. You should also post this on RunUO Forum. I know some people there who want an alternative to UOAM because development stopped. b. regards |

hi and thanks =) just a quick note : iris does have builtin uoam support, it can connect directly to an uoam server, see paperdoll-options dialog to "link"/connect to a server without using the normal uoam-program. it is still somewhat experimental, positions seem to blink a bit, and some features like panic are not supported yet, but chat and positions work. |

Ah Based on the FAQ entry for UOAM on the Iris2 site I was under the impression that UOAM used a closed protocol to interact with the client and that Iris2 required UOAMHub as a workaround. I guess that FAQ entry is a bit dated and you folks have worked around the issue in a similar way that UOAMHub did. Good job! |

Oh i thought UOAMHub is a server just like UOAM, not a proxy? |

the original uoam server is for win only. uoamhub is not a uoam server for linux, not just a proxy. uoamhub is opensource, so it was a big help getting the uoam-support in iris to work, as the uoam network protocol is not very well documented. the uoam network protocol is rather weird and very inefficient. (client has to poll positions regularly, complete login infos are sent with every request etc.. ) when considering making a new tool like uoam, maybe this project here might be interesting : http://www.vetus-mundus.de/phpbb2/viewt ... 92&start=0 it's something very similar to uoam, using the qt gui-lib and designed to support plugins for rendering stuff on the map. The thread is in german, but the first post contains a link to the sourcecode. It cannot interface with iris and is not compatible to the original uoam protocol. I think it also has rather high memory usage, but it might be worth a look in terms of maprendering and gui code nevertheless. |

Maybe the server is interesting. I would like to have a UOAM server or something similar for Linux to try it with our Testshard. Maybe just a script for RunUO would be nice. |
