Post subject:  Windows 7 + Iris

Hello.
I want to use Iris on Windows 7, but i'm getting an error about d3dx9_39.dll not present on my system.

I believe this is a problem related to a check iris make because Windows 7 has the most updated version of directx (version 11).

Is there any quick fix for this?
Thanks in advance.

Win7 does indeed have DX 11

It does NOT have the latest DX 9

Vista has the same issue (it comes with DX 10, but not 9)

The easiest way to fix this is to go to http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/deta ... laylang=en and get the latest DirectX. This will install the latest version of DirectX 9.

Now i can smoke a joint and just trip on my personal server with this incredible piece-of-art client.

I gotta say, i've been watching iris development since iris 1, one if the first betas, and every time i download a new build i get amazed on how much this client develops.

It worked with no problems under Windows 7 at first try after i installed dx9, with acceptable performance, now it has a 2d version, lots of graphics that were missing are now present, and it even has its own packet video recording system.

Thank you for your amazing work, guys.
Playing UO with Iris give a whole new feeling to the game. :)

psz, what do you think would be the best option for a notebook with a intel gma 965 in it: direct3d or open gl?
I've tried 'em both and couldn't really tell which one is better ...

At this point I think MOST cards probably handle DX and OGL about the same.

We're not talking TNT2 era stuff anymore ;->

just a gut feeling, i'm no windows graphics expert, but on windows i'd go with directx if it works, since the drivers there are more up to date.

we don't currently use high-tech shader stuff intensively, but that might change in the somewhat near future, and then an up to date driver can make a big difference.

hard to say if they keep opengl equally up to date without testing and research though =)
