I am running IRIS 2.0 on Ubuntu Linux, and have a strange problem. Most of the system seems to work fine, but anytime I use the chat feature, it turns my English characters into Chinese or Japanese symbols.
I am curious if anyone is having this problem as well.
I am able to enter my user ID and other information just fine using English characters. When I enter the chat, it appears in English at the bottom of the screen. When I hit "Enter" to send the chat, though, it turns into double-byte characters coming out of my character's mouth.
I am able to see other people chatting just fine. I am also able to send single-letters (which have no conversion into double-byte characters) without seeing any changes. If I enter anything that can be interpreted as a Japanese, though, it translates.
Yes, I do have Japanese installed as a secondary language under Ubuntu. I am curious if anyone else has seen this problem and has a solution to it. Perhaps there is a special input method that the text-chat area is using?
