Any idea how I can fix this?

I think you just need d3dx9_33.dll in your bin folder.

do you use vista and dont have dx9 installed?
btw can you post the content of your ogre.log?

I had directx 9 installed and I still had to put the file in the folder maybe you guys should just include it on the svn so its already there.

I use XP Home and I'm pretty sure I have dx9 [how do i check for sure?]

there are different versions of directx9 you need a newer one :

oh ok i see well theres a site .dll site that has it hosted maybe just post a link idk some how i find it unlikely they would come after you for that.

Install the new directx 9 and throw this in your bin folder it should fix the problem.

Just download and install the newest dx runtime. Do not take such files, you don't know if there is a virus or worm in it. Also you don't get the rest of the updated directx files, and this maybe couses crashes.

It has good reasons why ms is updating the directx9 runtime sometimes ;-).

sometimes on vista machines you can't have DirectX 9 with DirectX 10 it won't work, so you have to do some work around.

My last exp. was, that Vista comes with dx10 and you have to install dx9 seperatly. But it works.

Vista comes with both DX9 and 10, however the redists are the builds that come after the initial release, think of them as the monthly releases (as the SDK changes, so the framework does, logically) - most games include the redist files with them (so long as you use the packaged installers afaik). Vista comes with plain DX9 and plain DX10, none of these monthly versions.

If the compiles were moved to use the basic oooold DirectX9c SDK from whenever it was released, no one would notice, but since we cant do that for many reasons, this is the best we can do :)

This is quite incorrect.

You can (and SHOULD!!!) have DirectX 9 installed on Vista, and update it from www.microsoft.com/directx every few months, just to be on the safe side. Go to the For Gamers button at the bottom left, then click the Get Latest DirectX (Yes, I know the site has DirectX 10 plastered all over it, but it actually installs the latest 9 version, presumably because 10 hasn't had any major updates yet)

This is the same as .Net... Vista does not come pre-installed with 1.1, however many apps still require it (The installer will complain when you try to install 1.1, but it works perfectly. Vista will, in fact, work with 1.1, 2.0, and 3.0 all installed at the same time (this is the recommended method if you use many .Net apps)
