first :
when you start iris, there should be a dialog saying
"Select a file in the UO Folder".
if not, please post a screenshot of the error you get,
ideally so that the messages inside the black console window are visible.
if the file-browse dialog opens,
navigate to your uo dir and select a file there, e.g. client.exe
You have to have uo installed to use iris.
if you don't have it already, you can download it for free on
http://games.mirrors.tds.net/pub/ea-gam ... _setup.exe
(you'd only have to pay if you wanted to play on the official servers, playing on freeshards is free)
if you run into the directx9 error after that, update your directx9 version :
http://download.microsoft.com/download/ ... redist.exe
about config editing for entering the shard :
i just tried with notepad, and it can't even handle the newlines properly. so much for textfile editing under win. *sigh*. so if you need to edit the config.lua you'll need a proper text-editor like
notepad++(nocost,opensource :
website).
we know iris isn't very usefriendly yet with all that textfile editing, it's on the todo-list, but we're hobbyists with limited freetime, and other things were important before that.
If you don't like that somewhat experimental environment, it might be better to wait for one of the next few release, we've started work on graphical config & shardlist editor, should be done in a few weeks.
