 Post subject: Android Port?

Would it be possible to port iris to android since android is Linux based?

Android is java based. So you first would need to port Ogre to java (perhaps there is a working java version, I'm not sure).
But I think the current version of iris2 is to resource hungry therefore it's barely possible to run on a mobile phone.

i'll second the too resource hungry, until phones have 2gb of ram there wouldnt be much point

A 3D version would be much much harder (simply due to all the models and whatnot: Even my Vibrant only has 32GB of storage total).


A 2D version might be possible, especially since 2.2 and 2.3 make heavier use of OpenGL ES.


Still.... Current Androids are only 1Ghz single-core machines.... Having some sort of JIT converter or even a direct Java port would probably tax the hell out of the unit. Next year's dual core, terga-based machines could probably handle it, though.

There is already an OpenGL ES port of Ogre for iPhone.
