I've just been looking through the forums and I am worried that Iris might die off. I've been following the project for years now and want to try and do my bit if I can. Where would be the best place to start codewise to look at getting Iris back on it's feet again? What ideally needs doing in order to make the client more usable?

hi!

yes, development is on halt, so the project is effectively "dead", or at least not being developed further by the original team.
it is basically playable, but there are still lots of areas left that can be improved, and there are login problems on some shards, as well as lots of missing/placeholder graphics/models.

one central list of issues can be found here :
http://iris2.de/index.php/Roadmap#todo_list
it hasn't been maintained for a while however, and it's more of a wishlist than a roadmap.

getting iris back on its feet :
if you mean development to continuously improve things and add more and more features, a new dev team is needed.

if you have a more specific goal in mind, maybe iris can do it already or with minimal changes.

i know the codebase well and can give advice if needed, best reach me via irc channel (see iris2 website)where i idle most of the time,
or email (ghoulsblade@schattenkind.net) , i only check forums every few days/weeks since there is very little activity besides spambots.
